{"id":145,"date":"2013-06-06T11:14:25","date_gmt":"2013-06-06T18:14:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spriggy.com\/?p=145"},"modified":"2015-04-22T11:16:19","modified_gmt":"2015-04-22T18:16:19","slug":"getting-wild","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spriggy.com\/?p=145","title":{"rendered":"Getting Wild"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A handful of years ago, my husband and I decided to get a divorce. \u00a0The sadness I felt was unimaginable and I was paralyzed with grief. \u00a0I knew I needed to find purpose in my life as getting out of bed was a treacherous chore. \u00a0In typical Dori fashion I decided that only an excursion along the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/pct\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pacific Crest Trail<\/a> would do. \u00a0From the Mexicali border all the way to Washington state in the north, I would find a new purpose, with new dreams to conquer in every step of the way.\u00a0I spent hours researching the needed resources and presented my plans,convincing friends to journey with me on different legs of the trip. \u00a0It would take all 2500+ miles to come to peace and close the door on my shattered reality.<\/p>\n<p>I remember sitting at lunch with my brother as the first thoughts of doubt began to creep in. \u00a0 He and his friend heckled the idea of trekking with me across the Mohave desert and \u00a0presented the absurdities of my trip. <i>\u00a0For goodness\u00a0sake\u00a0I was serious!! \u00a0<\/i>I then learned of two girls killed in Oregon while hiking along the trail, then another. \u00a0Maybe this wasn&#8217;t such a good idea after all and the guidebook and paper trail of notes remain on a shelf to this day.<\/p>\n<table class=\"tr-caption-container\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-EAcUrayT2WA\/UbCcfFzXQ1I\/AAAAAAAAEXg\/JqV3QVOizVw\/s1600\/WildTP_Books-330.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-EAcUrayT2WA\/UbCcfFzXQ1I\/AAAAAAAAEXg\/JqV3QVOizVw\/s320\/WildTP_Books-330.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"215\" height=\"320\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td class=\"tr-caption\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0307476073\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0307476073&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=spriggycom-20\" target=\"_blank\">$9.99 on amazon<\/a><span id=\"goog_1121254299\"><\/span><span id=\"goog_1121254300\"><\/span><span id=\"goog_1121254284\"><\/span><span id=\"goog_1121254285\"><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Recently, while strolling through a store, a byline from a book elevated itself from its cover. <b>From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail.<\/b>\u00a0 It is about a woman whose mother had died, had gotten divorced and impulsively decided to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cherylstrayed.com\/wild_108676.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Cheryl Strayed<\/a> had wrote my book! \u00a0An Oprah book club selection, a New York times bestseller and stealing the words right off the cover, &#8220;a literary and human triumph.&#8221; \u00a0How would I resist reading the book I&#8217;d never again have the opportunity to write.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s easy to place myself in her shoes as she shares her experiences. \u00a0The candor of her writing is admirable and sometimes startling as the story unfolds. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0307476073\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0307476073&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=spriggycom-20\" target=\"_blank\">Wild<\/a> is a memoir of one woman&#8217;s amazing journey not only along the PCT, but through her life at the time and the needed journey to redemption. \u00a0I have laughed, I have cried and I have cringed as she used the &#8216;F&#8217; word yet again in her writing. \u00a0She shares intimate details of her broken life and her journey along the trail. \u00a0It&#8217;s exactly what I wanted to do years ago,but didn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s easy to ponder the path my life would have taken if I too had decided to hike the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcta.org\/discover-the-trail\/maps-and-guidebooks\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Pacific Crest Trail<\/a> those many years ago. \u00a0I would have healed much faster. I would have overcome the pain sooner&#8230;. And I never would have ended up pregnant staring divorce in the face prolonging the inevitable painful decision. (<i>The scariest thing I&#8217;ve yet to experience<\/i>.) \u00a0Cheryl and I have many remarkable similarities within our stories but many differences abound. \u00a0One being that of the decision we both made that ultimately helped me overcome the sadness I did feel without ever hiking the trail.
