My\u00a0niece\u00a0spoke in church the other day. \u00a0I had the awesome opportunity and\u00a0privilege\u00a0to be there. \u00a0She started matter of fact just as any unpretentiously confident 14 year old would. \u00a0“A man named Jim Morrison once said……….” \u00a0I perked up. \u00a0Maybe church wouldn’t be as dry today after all. <\/i>\u00a0I smiled as I was filled with pride she was quoting a legendary musical figure. \u00a0I chuckled because she had absolutely no idea who she was talking about.<\/p>\n
I realize that we’re living in a new age, the\u00a0millennial\u00a0dawn of \u00a02013. \u00a0The Doors made hits in the late 1960’s. \u00a0I too came around after that. \u00a0However while my\u00a0niece\u00a0is listening to the manufactured bebop of One Direction (Zoom and I listen to them all the time and we think you’re <\/b>beautiful<\/i>) there is a whole other world of music out there. \u00a0I’m not a music junkie that has an LP collection or can even recite lyrics, but I do appreciate good rock and roll, classic jazz, and unduplicatable\u00a0soul. \u00a0I appreciate the diversity of the times from one generation to the next. They bring the history of these times into relevance. \u00a0You’re reminded of experiences and lessons \u00a0long forgotten and place us in another\u00a0dimension\u00a0(no\u00a0psychedelic\u00a0implication\u00a0from the Doors here<\/i>). \u00a0Music teaches the soul and inspires the mind. \u00a0What music do you\u00a0appreciate\u00a0 \u00a0What inspires you to conquer the world?<\/p>\n
While there is no necessity of flashing back I encourage you to listen to some music from the past. \u00a0Songs that transport you. \u00a0Songs that change your outlook or feelings for the moment despite having fell from their billboard rank. \u00a0Hunt it out. \u00a0Play it for your children and give them a piece of the past. \u00a0Even if it came long before you did. \u00a0Balance the\u00a0yin\u00a0with the yang in\u00a0today’s\u00a0world. \u00a0Help educate a younger generation of the history of excellence. \u00a0Music appreciation.<\/p>\n
